Newsflash

We concluded this study on chemotherapy after 100 participated in the survey. Thank you all. The question asked was: By undergoing chemotherapy, I (or the patient) expect or hope for:

The following are the results:

1) 34% of participants expect for a 100% cure. This means about one in three patients believes or hopes that he/she can be cured of cancer by chemotherapy.

2) 10% of participants expect only a partial cure (75% cure = 6% of participants; 50% cure = 2%, 25% cure = 2%).

3) 9% of the participants believe there is no cure but they undergo chemo because: (a) they have no choice (1%), (b) they hope to prolong life (6%) or (c) they hope to obtain better quality of life (2%).

4) 7% of participants have no idea at all – they just follow what the oncologists tell them to do.

5) 17% of participants believe they should go for both chemo and alternative therapies.

6) 23% of participants believe they should not go for chemo and would opt for alternative therapies.

7) None of the participant would consider doing nothing for his/her cancer.

We invite you to participate in another study (see column on your right)

Survey

After undergoing chemotherapy, how do you describe your oncologist:

Research Highlights

Ho, ho, ho --- give it a good clap. I love my doctors. They say I can eat anything I like. My cancer couldn't care less what I eat.

Good news to the patients but bad news to their families because soon these people may end up all dead!

According to the latest research done by Jeffrey Meyerhardt, M.D., MPH.(of Dana-Faber Cancer Institute - a principal teaching affiilate of the Harvard Medical School), as reported in Journal of the American Medical Association, 15 August 2007; patients with the highest intake of a Western-pattern diet, characterized by high intakes of red meat, sugar desserts, high fat and refined grains have a 3-fold increase in recurrence and mortality. The research was carried out with 1009 patients who had stage III colon cancer treated with surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy.
